Restricted feeling normal?/?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My first time here and so glad this site is here.

I got the lap band on 11-21, today is 11-23 and I AM MISERABLE! I feel like I have a belt under my breasts that is way too tight.

Is this normal? Will it go away? Is it the air they pump, or just swelling?

When does it get better? I'm ready to have it taken out.

I felt the same way after surgery. What did I do to myself? It's gets better, trust me. Once you get in the groove, and all the post-surgery swelling goes away, you'll feel human again. I had major shoulder and neck pain for weeks afterward, but eventually that went away, too. I am almost 12 weeks post op and feel that this was the best thing I could have done for myself. It sounds crazy, but you really get used to the actual band restriction and go crazy when you don't feel it anymore. It feels different from the surgery restriction. People can share how things feel with the band, but you won't really know until you feel it yourself. Best wishes and Hang In There!

Let me tell you. I had my surgery on oct16 and felt the same way. The back and shoulder pain is gas, believe it or not. That will go away eventually. The feeling you have in your chest or stomach is normal and that goes away when your stomach starts to heal from the surgery. As the weeks pass, you will feel more hungry. In my case, my doctor hasnt filled my band yet, so I'm getting hungrier, but I'm trying to fight it intil I get filled on Dec 3rd. I have lost 20 lbs so far, feel back to normal and cant wait till I get a fill to feel this so-called "restriction". But, right after surgey and the few weeks following, I felt like OMG, what did I do to myself! But, as my clothes started getting looser and every week I was losing weight, I felt so much better. I am now able to fit into jeans that have been in my closet for about two years. I just cant wait to get down to 50 lbs lost where there is a real difference in how I look, but I feel so muche better now and so will you. Good luck. You will soon be where I'm at asnd giivng advice to others about your experience. Rock on!

Sounds like your swelling from surgery is giving you some restriction now. I had that as well. Consider yourself lucky. Many people actually gain weight before their first fill, but I continued to lose. The gas pains can plague you for weeks. It sucks, but it will pass. Many people say gas x strips help some, but walking and moving around is the best thing you can do to relieve that. i also had my daughter "burp" me like a baby by patting/hitting my back. It seemed to help me. Good Luck!

thank you, everyone! Your experiences are a big help. I feel better knowing that what I'm feeling is normal and WILL go away. I even called the doc today who said the same thing. I feel like such a wimp for calling but I was sort of freaking out I guess, never having done this beforenot really knowing what to expect. I wasn't told that I would feel such restriction! I really wanted it taken out. But then my knees started feeling better already, and you all answered so I feel way better now. thankyouthankyouthankyou

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
