maudeispam 2 Posted July 18, 2005 I am gearing up for surgery July 29th. I have completed my pre-exam (blood work, EKG & chest xray), saw the dietician (Started the Optifast diet) and today saw the Anitheliologist (I know I spelled that wrong). Anyhow he said I would have to have a breathing tube put in. He also said they would have to do it while I am awake. (Because my mouth is small and my throat is rather small too.) He said that they would numb the mouth and throat and give me something via IV to help me relax. I had my stomach pumped several years ago and that tube was awful. Has anyone else had to do this too (The breathing tube) ...in this fashion? Do you remember it...what it as bad as it sounds? Please any reassuring words would be helpful. giveyouthemoon 4 Posted July 18, 2005 Yikes! I had a breathing tube done, but it was put in after I was already out and removed before I woke up. The breathing tube is very standard but not insertion while awake. I guess you'd better decide now what fun place you are going to go mentally while they do that. I have to do that at the dentist or when I have blood drawn. Close my eyes and go somewhere else for a while. Best of luck to you and congrats on your surgery date!!!!! giveyouthemoon 4 Posted July 18, 2005 I will think of floating on the river in a string bikini with all my skinni friends! Make sure you envision them eyeing you with extreme jealousy for your lean taut body. Hey, it's YOUR fantasy, you can make it however you want!!
Mita 2 Posted July 19, 2005 I had problems along time ago with the breathing tube and was sure to let the Anthesia doc know so that he could be extra careful when inserting it and taking it out plus give me the proper medications.
"Nita 0 Posted July 19, 2005 I had a surgury a couple of years ago and that anasthesiologist wanted to tube me awake also. First let me say it wasn't bad at all and I ama big wimp!!! LOL What he did was give me the meds to relax me and he held his hand firmly on the front of my throat. He explained he would be doing this of course or I would have thought he was about to strangle me, LOL. I could still breath, he was just applying very firm pressure. This was to get me used to the pressure I would feel as the tube went in. Well, as I was about to go go into a twilight sort of sleep, he added the rest of the put yuo under meds but before i went under he put the tube in and took his hand off. I only vaguely remember anything after his hand on my throat. I never fought the tube or even really noticed it. Hopefully if your guy is as good and uses some similar techniche so you don't fight against the tube, it will be super simple and you won't even remember it!!! best of luck
