Slipped Band? No Restriction!

Recommended Posts

I have been very frustrated with no restriction and starting to put weight back on. I had good restriction up until about 5 weeks post op, I was going to have a fill at 6 weeks but got food stuck that lasted around 3 days so got a fill at seven weeks. I have had 4 fills and now have 6.5ml in a 9ml band with absolutely no restriction. Was wondering if I have a band slip from getting food stuck so early on, as I did have a certain level of restriction before the food getting stuck. Can anyone give me some insight.

PS I was banded 3rd Sept 2008

From what I've read a slipped band causes pain, not "no restriction". I suggest you ask your surgeon.

It just happens like that sometimes...one day you have good restriction and then it's gone. But slipping is usually followed by pain and not being able to keep anything down from what I've read. You just need another fill. It took me months of fills and to be almost completely full to get restriction. Everyone is sooooo different.

I think i'm stressing cause I haven't lost any weight since about week 5 post op and my husband keeps saying aren't you supposed to be eating only a cup of food and then I feel guilty and then I eat more. I feel I should have lost a little bit in the last six weeks, but it is my fault cause i'm over eating just like I used to. I just hope I haven't waisted our money by getting this lap band. I am going to get another fill on Tues and then I am going away for a month on Thurs and then its Christmas and New Year, oh god I hope I lose weight an not put it on.

Perhaps things are different in Australia, but I was educated that restriction would take a while. I was banded 8/29 and until i have sufficient "fill" there WILL NOT be restriction. My Surgeon does fills slowly and I have 3 cc's in a 14 cc band. He told me it could take up to 6 MONTHS before I feel restriction and really start to lose. I think maybe (?) you and your husband have some unrealistic expectations about the band. You WILL be hungry until the restriction forms pouch that keeps food up at the top of your stomach for long enough to trigger the "I'm full now" hormones that signal your body "FULL NOW". Until you have that restriction it is as if you do NOT have a band.

It isn't bypass surgery where you drop 100 pounds in 6 months (or such...whatever the statistics are!)

The lap band is slow and steady. If 2 years out you haven't lost a good chunk, THEN you can panic! Until then, give it (and yourself) a chance.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
