I'm quite a bit older than you :smile2:, but I believe it depends on several factors, including how much weight you have to lose ( how stretched out your skin is already) as well as genetics, to a certain extent.

Sorry I don't have a definitive answer for you, but I don't believe there is one.

I'm not totally sure but I can tell you what my doctor has told me. I was 5'2'' and 311 pounds prior to surgery. I am 29 years old. My doc said that I have so much to lose and since my weight is evenly distributed I will definitely have to get skin removed from my stomach, thighs and upper arms. I've lost almost fifty so far and my skin does seem a little saggier, hate to say it but it looks like he is right.

It depends how heavy you are, where you carry it and just on your skin texture in general. There's little you can do to prevent it.

Some of us are luckier than others but I think everyone has looser skin than they would have had had they never become obese, if that makes sense. I had a BMI of 35, I carried it fairly evenly, not a lot on the stomach, lost weight slowly and just have pretty good skin. I dont *need* any PS after a 100lb loss, but a few nips and tucks here and there could certainly improve things.

Others have an undisputed need to remove problematic hanging skin. It just depends.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
