Tryin' to get the feeling again ...

Recommended Posts

Here's my story ...

Started persuing lapband seriously 12/07. Did six-month medical weight loss and was denied by insurance in June 08. Got more info and resubmitted - was denied again and lost my motivation, figured it wasn't meant to be. In the meantime, my employer changed insurance carriers so I contacted my surgeon with my new info ... I was approved in 3 days and have a surgery date 12/1. But where is my motivation? Why am I not excited like I was this time last year? I know I should be more diligent about breaking old habits like grazing and gulping (and I did pretty well today) but all I can really think of is that I'm losing my bff food! and how am I ever going to make all the changes I need to make. Does actually having the band make it easier?

Hi footballmom. The band doesn't really help with the mental urge to overeat, even when you're not really hungry (we call that "head hunger"). It will help you to feel more satiated with less food, but you still have to do your part.

If you're not totally sold on getting the band, I would urge you not to do it......It takes a certain dedication to lose weight, even with this great tool.....I suggest you research all types of weight loss surgery (assuming you still want WLS) to find the right one for you.

I would encourage you to move forward with the process. The bad habits we acquired over our life time will not dissipate over night, but banding is a tool that will help you. I would encourage you to seek counseling and connect to others on this forum.

Your demotivation can stem from the fact that you have indured several denials, making you think that the surgery really isn't going to happen.

Good luck to you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
