I got my first fill today, everything went great, but I asked my doc all of my questions and he contradicted a lot of things I've heard on here. He said coffee is fine, Advil is fine, doing crunches and pilates is fine. A lot of things that I have heard on here contradict that. I guess I will stick with what my doc says until something happens!

My doc agrees with yours except I have to steer clear of pilates and crunches until I am four weeks post op. Then I am good to go.

He has been giving me Advil since the day of surgery. I can also drink coffee but he prefers me to drink Decaf. I drink decaf anyway due to panic attacks.

That's why I always say "Ask your doctor and do what s/he says" They are all medical professionals who have done their own research and have their own opinions and plans for our recovery.

well, it depends what kind of advil

big pills get stuck

depends how swollen you are, you can try crushing or spliting the tablets but not the gel caps

i used liquid tylenol and the children's dissolvables

I heard somewhere that too much aspirin can irritate your stomach

coffee I don't know about- I heard caffiene stimulates your appetite but who knows?

I think as time has gone on, some doctors have changed their thinking on things. I know in the booklet that I was given by my doctor's office, it said no coffee ever and no advil ever. They told us to mark that out. They said that as long as we don't drink more than 2 cups a day, coffee was fine. Then they said that long term use of advil was not good, but occassionally it was fine. Every doctor has had different experiences. That is why it is always best to follow your doctor's advice. You put your trust (and your money) in your doctor's ability. Why not do what he says?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
