Hi. My name is Karen, and on August 8, 2008, I had my lap band surgery done in Federal Way, WA by Dr. Myur Srikanth, a fine surgeon who's a delight to work with. Since then, the task has been challenging, especially until recently when I had my second fill, which seems to have given me some restriction. Until then, it was 1% band power and 99% bandpower, or so it seemed to me.

Nonetheless I'v very pleased with the results; I started at 233 (before the pre-op 2 week liquid diet) and am now at 280.2. So those are pretty dramatic results! I'm only 5'1" so I still have over 50 lbs to go, but I already feel so much better. And it's so fun to sit down to a meal and feel satisfied after having only a small amount.

My main challenges right now are two: 1) if I never see a Protein Drink again, I'd be delighted--it just almost nauseates me have to face one-- and 2) eating between meals. Old habits die very hard. So I'm looking for ideas to have my Protein in a palatable way before I get into deep trouble for not getting enough in.

It's nice to have found this board and I'll look forward to getting familiar with some of the people here.

Karen

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
