I'm on Day 4 post-op. I had two days of liquids which I lived on Water and popsicles. Now I'm on mushies, and I'm starving! I've tried scrambled eggs, mac & cheese, and chipped ham. I'm following the no drinking guidelines when eating, but I'm not feeling full! The stomach growling is nearly unbearable! Anyone have any suggestions !?!??!

I know what you mean. I am in the puree phase (anything I can smash with a fork). Since we have to Fluid in our band out stomachs are pretty much regular. We have no restriction. You can eat more just eate wisely. Try to limit the sugar and salt (I need to take this advice)

I liked pinto Beans and cheese from Taco bell. I also like Mashed potates, crab dip (crab and cream cheese mixed with shrimp sauce on top). You just have to play around with it.

Luv I know this is tough. What you are going through was the hardest part for me post-op. Remember right now you are healing - your sore tummy needs time to get well...that's what the first six weeks is for. Make sure you stay hydrated - that will help some with the hunger. Protein first! It will help you stay full longer. I lived off of refried Beans and chicken salad (made with canned chicken & tostidos spinach dip - yea that's it). Use your blender to purree it - you aren't ready yet for reg. foods. Also make some egg salad - it should go down better than scrambled eggs (many bandsters including myself have problems with the consistancy). Egg drop Soup also is filling.

The most important thing - don't cheat! Follow your doctor's instructions. That is very important...I know you are hungry - in another week or so this will be but a memory. You will smile about liquid hell & mushy hell...I never thought I'd say that - but it will pass.

Also - don't be surprised if you put a little weight on right now - your body has to adjust. don't be obssessed about the scale at this time. It can be your emotional downfall.

You're lucky. I was on Clear Liquids for 1 week post op, and week 2 I could add Protein Shakes. I've read of some being on liquids for 4 weeks post op!

You won't feel restriction until they start tightening your band so hunger now is normal.

Just gnaw on your left arm --- it has lots of Protein :-) haha... I am on full liquids right now too and have felt that the hunger pains have been as bad or worse than the surgery... I have found that the Atkins chocolate shakes and the Carnation Instant Breakfast have been REALLY helpful to me. It just kind of staves off that hunger a bit. Good luck :-) YOU CAN DO IT!!!!:thumbup:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
