Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor 3 months banded...

Recommended Posts

My name is Julie, and I was banded on August 21. I'm 27 years old, married for nearly 9 years, and have 2 children, ages 7 and 11 months. Even though I have been banded for nearly 3 months, I still feel as if I have no idea what I am doing. I have been a member of Weight Watchers, and though I continue to go to meetings for motivation, I sure as heck don't feel like I get support there - the attitude towards WLS there is very negative, and so I've kept the fact that I am banded to myself. Pretty much the only people that know I'm banded are my husband and my mother - I'm hesitant to really talk about it with anyone else because I'm just not sure how they will react.

So basically I just need someone to talk to about this journey! What it meant for you to be banded, how you made it through, what kept you going... that sort of thing.

Thank you in advance!

Julie

Get some GAS-X strips..they work really well. However,

saying that, I still have gas (it wasn't really a problem

before) and I was banded 2/18/08. D.

Jules -

I can totally relate about the whole WW thing. I tried WW for years before deciding to have the surgery and have had an experience of being "shunned" by the WW crowd.

I'm so happy I had the surgery! :huh2:

deepinfl: You are close to my age, how did you lose all that so fast?? I had my surgery in July and there is no way I will get that much off by May 09! I had sure hoped to but I have slowed down to a stop! You must feel FANTASTIC! Good for YOU!! Did you lose some weight gradually every month? Was it 5-10 lbs. a month? Did you do a diary ?? Am trying to figure out what to do to get this jump-started again!! I am getting discouraged which is a major problem for me...Thx

you still have gas after nearly a year of being banded? Is it still painful and in your shoulder/neck or are you just farting a lot? I am dealing with gas pains now and it's ultra annoying and painful... much more bothersome than even the incisions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
