Not motivated

Recommended Posts

you just need to do it.

when you hear the exercise gives you more energy...it's true!

maybe the first few times you'll be tired but once you get going...you'll have all kinds of energy.

get a workout buddy that way you can hold eachother accountable.

start small...commit to 10 minutes a day...whatever it takes to just do it. =)

starting small is great advice. make small goals & increase your time & length in whatever you choose to do ... and it's best to find something you "sorta enjoy"..

in time your want for sleep is replaced w/energy & you'll want to work out....it's 5:30am for me right now, doing coffee before Breakfast & plan on hitting the gym w/in the hr. i know i can't get there any other time today & don't want to miss my workout.....who would have thought that a yr ago.

they're are some exercise challenges in this forum - which help accountability & some great support in getting your started.

I have been really tired lately and I can't find the motivation to excercise. I just want to sleep

Hi:

I'm guessing that you've been banded recently based on your loss so far. This is a healing time for you. You need to make sure you're getting enough Protein in to give you the energy you need. In addition, you need to "baby" yourself for a while. For me, I took a nap every afternoon for the two weeks after my surgery. I struggled with a lack of energy for about a month after surgery. However, I still made myself get out and walk every day. You may want to speak with your surgeon's office and go over what you are eating to make sure you're getting enough nutrition while you're healing. At this point, healing is more important than losing weight.

Best wishes.

Sue

I would take a picture of you at your highest and a pic of you or someone you wish to look like(lowest) and post them both on the refridgerator door and by your computer. Looking at where you want to be should be motivation to get you moving. Good Luck!

I think if any of us would choose, we would pick sleep over workouts. The only thing that gets us up and moving is we know that it will improve our health, weight loss, and energy level. It is the same for eating, we would rather eat whatever, and as much as we want, then to have to watch what we eat, but that too, is not going to get us to where we want to be. You just have to decide what's more important and then JUST DO IT!

saninbham, we've all been there. It is always easier to simply sleep. As someone mentioned, if you are newly banded, take it a little easier and let yourself heal. For the first wk or so after surgery, I could only manage walking around the neighborhood in the afternoon. And, at the start, if I got 4 blocks, I felt lucky......and exhausted. Not because I was in terrible shape (though I was) but because my body was healing.

Once I started hitting the gym, I had to force myself to get in. When I went back to work after 4 wks (I'm a police officer) I made myself get up @ 0430 to do my cardio and back after my shift to lift. It gets easier as I am still doing this schedule.

Good luck. If you have any questions, talk to luluc. She knows what she is talking about and an inspiration to alot. Even if she is a filthy Giants fan.

I have been really tired lately and I can't find the motivation to excercise. I just want to sleep :)

Boy do I know what you mean BUT we have to do it! I joined a gym about a month ago and honestly I have to drag myself there. ONce I am there I just force myself to start. Once I start moving I am fine! I love how I feel afterwards, I feel like I accomplished a lot! But the next day I have to go through it again. The good thing about it is it sure makes the scale move quicker! I lost 14 lbs in one month because of it! I remind myself of that as I am driving there. It does give you more energy but that takes a couple weeks to kick in. Good luck and start moving you will feel better!

Sometimes setting goals helps motivate people. Maybe if you say, "Ok, today I'm going to walk a mile, but by the end of the month, I'd like to be able to walk two miles." You'll be more likely to direct your exercise and actually do it.

For example, I have two goals: to be able to jog and to exercise away 400 calories a day. To achieve the jogging goal, I make it a point to jog a little each day, anywhere from two minutes to eight minutes (in two minute increments). To still burn 400 calories I supplement the jogging with elliptical or exercise bike sessions.

Also, if you set a specific time of the day aside for exercise, you’ll have fewer subliminal excuses not to do it (I’m too busy, too much going on…)

Good Luck- and remember, exercise sucks, but it does get a lot easier as you go.

My problem is making time! I just don't know how to overcome this hurdle and put myself first.

If I put the time into it, something is not going to get done.

What to do?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
