Hello, I am scheduled for my consult on 12/1, and I have been reading your discussions for about a week, would the majority of folks do the procedure again?

just concerned

also my insurance should pay for the procedure, will it pay for the "fills"?

thanks kdbaron

You'll have to ask your insurance company about the fills. Most pay for them. Unbelievably some do not! Isn't that crazy? One place I looked at said that they bill fills as an office visit so that they are always covered. Another place had a program fee that included 1 or 2 years of follow-up including all fills. So it depends on the surgeon too.

Thanks, a good question for my consult then, or maybe call back the insurance company, took me 2 weeks to get through to them last time! kdb

Oh - heck yea...I'd do it again. The band is the best thing I've ever done for myself. I've gotten "me" back again - I'm healthier and happier than I've been in years. My weight no longer holds me back.

Advice? Well - do your research. #1 - make sure this is exactly you want to do. #2 - talk to your doctor - ask tons of questions...educate yourself. After that you've joined here, that's a great start. There's tons of information on here and the people here are wonderful as well. Ask questions - talk to those who have had it done.

As for the fills - every insurance company and doctor is different. Some insurance carriers cover it some don't. Pricing also is determined by the physician.

Welcome to LBT! Hope you plan to stay a while :-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
