What will I feel like afterwards?

Recommended Posts

I am wondering what I will feel like afterward? Not so much the ouchie part because I have had my gallbladder out laproscopically and I get that part but how will I really feel? Will I feel hungry? Will I be so hungry it's painful or will the band be what relieves that? How will I feel before my fill? Will THAT be hungry? I guess I am really worried about ravenous hunger working against me. I am just starting this whole process and these seem to be my biggest questions. What will I feel like???

You will probably be hungry until you get to restriction. You may be one of the lucky few that have restriction from the start or you may need several fills to get to restriction. You may also not be hungry for a week or two post-op (due to swelling) then suddenly get your appetite back and be very hungry.

But once at restriction you will not be constantly hungry. On average it takes about four fills to reach restriction but everyone is different. Once there you will be able to eat a small amount of food when hungry and stay satisfied for several hours until your next meal. That is the whole idea behind the bands part in weight loss. Your part is to eat the right foods, eat properly, not eat between meals or when head hunger (cravings) strike.

Jodi gave good advice as usual; just to warn you I was really hungry from the start postop. It's important you follow your doc's postop diet though, so that you heal properly. Depending on which band etc, it needs to heal in place and "cheating" by eating too early can do damage.

That part of it isn't fun for most of us! but you just grit your teeth and get through it somehow. It really isn't bad and it's worth it for a life time of freedom!

I was banded on 11/11/08 and while on the liquid post op diet, I was HUNGRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I felt light headed, dizzy, growling stomache pains. These symptons occured a couple of days post op. Once, I was able to tolerate cream Soups and yogurt, I was better able to control my hunger.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
