I had Dr. Laker; he was very good! I haven't had any problems since my surgery. Everything was quick and easy with his team.

The hospital staff (not associated with him), could have been a bit nicer. But I was so happy to get banded, I simply overlooked all of that.

I didn't have a lot of pain at all. However, my family reminded me to accept pain meds before I got into too much pain to control. That was a GREAT idea. DH drove me from Chicago and I just ate popsicles on the way home. At home I did a couple of days of percoset (sp)? and the rest was liquid tylenol as suggested here. Also suggest here was gas x strips. I sucked on those - even when I didn't feel I needed them. All went very, very well for me.

Oh, the BEST suggestion I got here, was to WALK, WALK and walk. I walked while in the hospital and walked thru the house when I made it home. I even got out of the car and walked whenever DH stopped for something. Just walk slowly and things will moooove on out!

Best of luck to you!

Just wanted to say hello. I was born and raised in Detroit (I miss it so much), but moved to Maryland a few years back for employment. I will be banded on January 5 and look forward to coming home in the spring.

Take Care!

I am praying that everything goes well for you. Please keep in touch and I am a little anxious about the surgery, but look forward to a lifestyle change.

The cold is the only think I don't miss about Detroit! However, nothing beats watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Lions actually win on Thanksgiving!

Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
