What do you think?

Recommended Posts

OK so I am new here and I have a referral from my PCM to go see talk to a surgeon about having the lap-band done. I'm scared he wont think that I am big enough for it. I am only 5'2 and I weigh 194. My BMI is 35.4. I have read many places you need to be 100lbs over weight and have a BMI of 40 or more. I am so close to that and I will be devistated if he says I cant have the surgury. I have PCOS and I have been steadly watching my weight climb for years. I eat well and go to the gym daily with no avail my weight keeps climbing. I have two young kids that I want to do more with but I am embaressed to do anything because how much weight I have put on recently. What are your thought? Do you think he will agree that I am a candidate? Anyone have a similar experience? What did you do or say during your consultation with the surgeon?

Thanks!

Brittney

my surgeon thought i was a great candidate for lap band - i didn't have any discussions w/my PCP about it - my OB yes.

though i didn't have any co-morbids my BMI was similar to yours and climbing even w/diet & exercise.

hey, anything over 30 is obese & if you have an opportunity to fix it earlier rather than later DO so....

all the best,

Are you a self pay? If not, you will need to check with your insurance to see what they require. I had to be over a 35 BMI with medical conditions. Some insurances require 40, but I have noticed most have been 35 with the medical condition.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
