Hi,

I have recently signed up for the lap baning in Brussels with Dr Bruyne and hope to have it done in Jan 2009.

I have been told that I can have the surgery on Friday, travel back to the UK on Sunday and go to work on Monday. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Also I would like an indication of how much weight people lost in their 1st few months. I have to loose 50% of my bodyweight is this achievable?

Hi Allison!

Sorry, I can't answer any of your questions. What day in January are you having surgery? Mine is the 23rd.

Hi Lewis,

I am so happy to know that someone else will be there that day! I don't know which hotel yet, probably the Campanile. I did the package thing through Frederick and it seems that most people are booked there. Which hotel are you staying in? My husband and I are arriving on Tuesday so we can enjoy Brussels before surgery. We are flying back to England on Monday. I'm really excited!!

Hi, I have'nt booked a hotel yet. How long have you been thinking about the band?? How much is your op costing?? My mum is getting the band aswell! She is 51 years old. Laura

Hi Laura, I took the 4070 Euro package. You? Tell your Mom "Hi!". I am 51 as well. I'd like for my Mom to able to get a band, but she is 71. I haven't told her that I'm getting one. My Husband was glad to hear that I'd found (I guess you found me) someone that will be there at the same time. I didn't learn about the band until recently. I was at the hospital moaning about being fat and a nurse told me about it, she'd had it done 2 years ago and said it was the best thing she'd ever done for her health. How much are you hoping to lose? Your Mom? I'd love to lose 80 pounds. Looking forward to meeting you both. Tammy

Hi,

My Op is scheduled for 23rd January also.

I am flying in from London and I assume that I am staying at the Campanile also. I arrive on Thursday and I am scheduled at 7.00 am in the clinic. I feel quite nervous as I have never had an op before but I still want to go ahead with it.

Really depends on your personal circumstances, i had mine Friday, travelled back Sunday and there was no way on earth i could have worked Monday. I was in alot of pain with gas and could not get enough Water in to hydrate myself. I was weak and tired and barely wanted to move att all. I went back to work the Thursday but was still poorly. I took Thursday and Friday off also but over the weekend i got instantly better and I am working today, al be it in a little pain in my port area.

Hi Allison!

Wow, that makes 4 of us (at least) for the 23rd! We can b*tch and moan together. Just kidding, hopefully we'll all sail through surgery and recovery. Is someone coming with you? Are you going home on Sunday? I'm staying till Monday. It is natural to be nervous. I've had a few surgeries, 2 in Brussels, (though not with Dr. Chris) and they took very good care of me. They have high medical standards in Belgium.

I'm near Norwich, you? Looking forward to meeting you! Tammy

Hi Tammy,

I am flying in from Heathrow on Thursday and I am fkying back on the Sunday as I plan to be at work on Monday.

The reason I picked Belgium for the surgery was because of the cost and I used to live in Luxembourg and a few people I knew got treated in Belgium.

As far as I know I get to leave the hospital on Saturday at 1.00 pm.

It will be good to have folks to talk too as I am coming on my own. I have only told a few close friends about it as they knew me before I piled on the pounds and at least they undertsand the frustration I have had with dieting, losing weight only to put it all back on again.

Holy Cow, Allison!

That was a speedy reply. My weight problem started with the birth of my last child. I refused to buy many clothes because I kept saying, "I'm not gonna be this big for long". Well, that darling child is now 22 years old and I have only gotten bigger. I have only told my husband. It's nice to know there will be a little group of us together.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
