Should I do this?

Recommended Posts

I feel that I should be able to lose this weight on my own...but I just can't. My BMI is 31....I have 55 pounds to lose...and it seems that surgery is so drastic. But I need to change my life...soon.

Another question is where to go. I have many people I know that have done this in Mexico. They are all very happy. There are so many doctors performing this surgery now it is hard to decide who is right for me.

No one here can really answer that for you because it's a choice about you and your body and what you're capable of.

Good luck in your decision making, it might just be the hardest part of the whole journey. No matter what avenue you choose, i wish you good luck in your weight loss.

I would try to lose the weight on your own. If you choose to go to mexico remember you have to still have fills. I am not sure how close you are to mexico to keep going back and forth. Most people that choose to have this surgery is almost a last hope to lose the weight they have been struggling with for years and have around 100 pounds to lose. Your weight lose even with the band also may be slower due to the fact you don't have that much to lose. Good luck with your decision. Remember lapband is a lifetime.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
