12 vials of blood.......yes... 12!

Recommended Posts

So today was my pre op appt. I got there at 9:35am and was called in to do the rest of my paperwork for the hospital paper work, and sign in blood and fork over my first born......

Then I was called back in to the room where they ask you about past present and future issues......

Meds I am on, and how much I take. The "God" who puts me to sleep rushed in and talked about things, and then said see you thursday morning...... ! The vampire.... hee hee..... took 8 vials first and then came back in and forgot to do a type and screen. 4 more vials sucked from my being.

So, that was my day in a nutshell. Drove 2 hours up and 2 hours back. I should be all set for thursday. I can't wait to be there and set for surgery!

I am tired from all the driving.

The good thing is that there is plenty more where that came from, and believe me, they will come back for more later. It is a good thing for them to do a pre-op test of all your blood work, so they'll have a baseline to compare to down the line when things like cholesterol and sugar levels and such improve.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
