HCG injections

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I got a call from my childhood friend. I hadn't spoken to her since before I was banded and so I told her about my weight loss. She said that she lost 61lbs. with HCG injections. I am not familiar with this and I was trying to research it today but it is hard to find unbiased information on it. There are plenty of sites that have the biased opinion of those who give the shots and those who recieve it and others that simply say it is a waste of money and a gimmick without explaining very well why they say so.

Obviously there is something to it. She said that she lost quickly and steady. But of course I know that doesn't mean that it permanant and more important, that it is safe. She is a dear friend and I would like to learn more about it so that I can either feel happy for her and be supportive or be concerned if need be.

Does anyone have any factual information about it? I am not looking for opinions here...as we all know opinions on weight loss methods are easy come by.

I saw my primary yesterday and he knows my history with my diabetes II, hypothyroidism, PCOS etc... and brought up something that I don't remember the name of but instead of taking my metformin for my diabetes I can inject myself twice a week with some hormone and people have lost up to 30 pounds on it. Is this the same thing? I don't have the info from him because we weren't even going to do it until after my bloodwork came back with the right numbers. Let me know if this sounds familiar or if they are two totally separate things, Nancy:smile:.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
