I have a question and Im not sure how to describe the feeling Im getting. First off, when I wake up in the morning I cant drink anything because I FEEL tight and my chest is tight right at my breast bone. I imagine this is from sleeping but will this last forever? Also, my doc told me initially that I should only take in 1 ounce of liquid every 15 minutes. Will I be able to do more in the future? My surgery was November 12, 2008 so Im still LEARNING all my new things I have to do!! Any help would be appreciated. Thank You to all!!

I don't have good answers for how much to drink and when, but the tightness in the morning my surgeon told me is related to the esophagus still being paralyzed from sleep. It is one of the slower muscles of the body to "wake up" and its normal for restriction to be higher early in the day and to ease up as the day goes on.

you may want to start your day with something warm, say a cup of tea. i found that when i'm tight in the morning (which is not usual) coffee or tea (i like peppermint - also soothes my tummy), loosens me up so i can eat my Breakfast.

your still early out, and likely have swelling going on....that might take a few more days to lessen.

congrats on your band!!!

I had a hard time getting my pills down the first week. I had a large Vitamin, a large Calcium, 2 small Vitamin D, and two small rx pills. Most days I would take some, but not all. after about 10 days, I found that it really isn't a problem any more, taking them when I start the bathroom routine first thing out of bed. I do try to do them not all at once but in 2-3 groups, so each set of pills can get down and settle.

Thanks you guys. I tried the hot tea/coffee and it works well. Also, I have this new thing where I feel like I going to burp and I get a pressure in my chest/throat but nothing comes out. That happens all day and is quite often. I know I am still early out but I hope its not going to last forever. If so I will learn how to deal with it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
