I work in a docctors office and he needs me there its a small office so being out will make it hard:confused_smile:

Haven't got mine yet, but my Dr. said you can be back to work in a week, sometimes less (if no heavy lifting).

How is the AP Lap safer than Realize (I have a choice as well, and Insur. covers either)?

I was just banded about a month ago and although realize is approved now, they are already working on the second generation model. My surgeon mentioned that it caused him a little concern that realize is already looking to improve the new model.

I have the 10cc LapBand (which I think is 3rd generation) and my particular surgeon seems to prefer it for a few reasons. I know he prefers the overall integrity and shaping.

Personally, I'd be kind of wary of putting something in me (ie the realize band) that has just been approved for use, but the company is already trying to re-design it to make it more like the LapBand.

Did I read somewhere or am I just imagining this that one of the bands can (rarely) cause "pinching" of the stomach between the inflated parts. If so, which one is this (I know the AP lap has lots of segments so is it pinching between these, or with the realize there's still the place where the inflatable part starts and stops)?

You aren't imagining it band-groupie!

In fact, that is my surgeon's main concern with the realize band....it locks in a backward fashion bending the band, which can cause erosion. I think he also mentioned that the inflatable tubing has those segments that can also cause band erosion. He was the one who mentioned the potential flaws with the realize band, and said they are currently re-designing it to look more like the Allergan LapBand.

My doctor left the decision to me and I was banded on November 11 with a 10cc Lap Band. My doctor pre-filled it during the surgery with 10cc and I am doing well.

As far as returning to work, there is no way I could have gone back after a couple of days. I am still in pain and I am sleeping off and on. However, the pain meds help and so does the walking. I am getting better and I am feeling stronger.

I took two weeks of from work to focus on my recovery...no stress...just plenty of relaxing. I return to my stationary job on November 24 and then work three days and have another four days off.

Also my MD has given me choice of Allergan or Realize band and havnt made up my mind I know Realize has been used for many years overseas as swedish band and I love their website but am concerned they are redesigning it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
