STILL Waiting......and what did you lose first month or two?

Recommended Posts

Seems like forever since i posted here. I finally started nutrition classes in June..so i'm just about done - long 6 months. Dropped about 11 lbs. - more than i thought i would lol. Today i attended a symposium. My nutritionist said i have to conclude the full 6 month nutrition class prior to getting the psych evaulation - does that sound right? My nutritionist said that my insurance WILL cover this procedure...I hope so...i just hadnt expected the $1250 fee i had to pay for after care.

So...as i get closer i'm more excited and i know this is what i need to do. I'm just nervous about what i'll actually be able to have to eat the first few weeks...I plan to scour this site a few weeks prior to the surgery to prepare.

Silly question....but....average weight loss - in say the first month after banding....what have some of your results been?

it's not a silly question - i wish i was a bit more prepared.

i did not have a pre-op diet, my weight loss the first 4+ months was very slow. 8lbs the first month, 3 the second, i was pretty discouraged - but just kept following along with the advice i got here & my dr. by month 5, the weight started to fly off a bit faster. not sure if the slow loss in the beginning was due to me having a lower BMI or no pre-op diet, not sure.

good luck to you!

LuLuC - I had a slow loss in the beginning and I think it was *because* I lost so much pre-op! :smile2:

I think bandsters can loser slower in the beginning because of lack of restriction but it seems very variable so I didn't want to generalize.

The first month is for healing and there was no restriction so weight loss wasn't great. I think it was around 6 pounds. My surgeon was happy with that; he said many of his patients gain 5-10 during that period.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
