Jagator88 1 Posted November 15, 2008 I have just begun researching lap band surgery as a weight loss option. I think my insurance may cover a portion but won't know for sure until Monday. I have been battling my weight for years and recently quit smoking resulting in a harder battle. I am now at approximately 240 (probably higher since it has been a week since I weighed). I am 5' 7" which puts my bmi around 37. I have a couple of comorbidities but nothing major ????(pain in hips, snoring/possible apnea, and chronic irritation of thigh and groin area). My oldest daughter had gastric bypass surgery @ 24. I always thought I could get a handle on my weight on my own. I quit smoking for my health and now will have the surgery for my health. I hope this process goes smoothly with the insurance company. I hate to go to Costa Rica but I will if I have to. If anyone can recommend an Orange Park doctor that would be great. MacMadame 81 Posted November 17, 2008 Welcome to LapBandTalk. Personally, I'd go to Mexico before I'd go to Costa Rica. There are some great docs there and it's closer. sleep apnea, if it's bad enough, is definitely a co-morbidity under all insurances I have seen. The other stuff, not so much. Some of the insurance companies are really buttheads about co-morbidities! For example, my insurance company wouldn't count my high blood pressure because it was controlled by medicine.
