Surgery was 11/14

Recommended Posts

I had surgery 11/14. I feel pretty good and am now waiting to go home. You have to love laptops and wifi.

I will say that the surgery went very well. I was first up at 8am, in recovery 40 minutes later and in my room by 10am. I was up and walking around at 11am. The pain is well managed with the pain pump, hitting the button about once every 40 minutes or so. I have been walking every hour and I think that is keeping the gas pains away.

I am enjoying the wonderful clear liquid diet- broth, Jello, apple juice and tea. Small sips, small sips, small sips.

The only issue I have is a sore throat from the breathing tube. Hot tea is helping with that.

Make room on the loser's bench- I am on my way!

Hooray for you! Pain pumps are excellent creations, it would have been nice to have one after my surgery. I'm not one to use the call light unless it's absolutely necessary, so I waited until the nurse came in the room to ask for medication. How nice to be able to take care of yourself when you needed it! There's plenty of room on the loser's bench for you, keep us updated on your successes or if you need help or encouragement.

Congratulations on your surgery, sounds like you are doing wonderful. I will be in your shoes this week as my surgery is Thursday. I will not stay overnight and will be sent home with a disposable pain pump that goes directly into my port site. Yikes, I am really starting to get nervous!!!

Glad to hear things went so well!!! I'm on day 4 of my preop diet... trying to stay strong having a tough day I cheated a little yesterday so I'm beating myself up totally. The good thing with this diet I've lost about 5 pounds in 3 days. Good Luck to you and to everyone that is not banded.

I had a lot of sore throat pain too. When the anesthesiologist came by the next day, I complained that they've been using those tubes for 100 years, and haven't come up with anything better, that doesn't hurt so much afterward. She asked if the lozenges helped.....Lozenges? so my advice is, bring some sore throat lozenges with you, or ask the nurse for one.

Congrats on your surgery going well!! I too had mine the 14th. I have to say I am miserable. Between the gas pain and being so tired, I'm probably not the nicest person to be around. Well glad to hear your doing well. Keep up the goos work.:)

Hey LindaLou! Don't worry about the pain pump! I just had my surgery on the 12th and I had one of the pumps. I took out myself and it didn't hurt a bit! Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
