I am nervous about Thanksgiving coming in a couple of weeks...just thinking about some of that food is making my stomach hurt! It is awkward to be at a table when everyone around me is eating different kinds of food, that are not necessarily "easy" on my stomach. Does anyone have any tricks for making Thanksgiving easier on your small stomach?

I know what you mean, I have been feeling the same way. I just had a fill last week, so I know I won't be able to eat much.

Almost nothing is out of the question.(Chicken and noodles, iffy) Just remember to take little bites. I plan to enjoy my Thanksgiving. I'm even going to have pumpkin pie. It will probably be only a few bites, but that's OK. It'l be nice to not gain after a Thanksgiving meal. I just had a fill this past Wed. also, it has greatly reduced how much I can eat. But I will just put a little bit of everything that I enjoy on my plate and savor it.

don't forget turkey is Protein. Have some it will be okay and a little mash potato don't forget your veggies. I eat whatever meats and veggies. fish and veggies, etc... have a happy thanks giving. don't forget a bite or two of pumkin pie...... I just had my 2nd fill of only 1 cc total in is 4cc. I lost 6 lbs in four weeks the Dr. said that was good. He only put 1cc yesterday. I'm doing losing what they said to lose 1-2 lbs a week. I could lose more only if I would eat less. I eat okay. I do get full fast.

I made a thanksgiving type meal to get a feel for what I could eat. I find i will have to push around a lot, and use gravy to make the stuffing go down ok. I do fine with turkey. I did fine with potatoes. The veggies my mom usually cook bother me, so she's added in peas. I will sample the pumpkin pie, and bring home a slice of apple pie for the next day. I really don't want more than a little bit. And I'll have an adjustment 2 days before thanksgiving. So I will probably want less. I can eat more, but OUCH I don't like eating more than I can.

I have to keep reminding myself that Thanksgiving is a time to be with family, not a time to stuff myself as it has been in the past.

Thanksgiving is a great time to take your focus off food, and instead enjoy those family interactions, and family fights... Maybe even start a family fight by trying to explain to Aunt Bessie why you are not going to be eating any of her fruitcake. ;)

Unless you are on liquids, you can enjoy anything you want, just a bite or so of each, and enjoy that turkey. My favorite is pumpkin pie... eat it without the crust... mmm... and if you want to be a 'little bad' take an extra little dollop of Cool Whip... it won't kill you...

Here is the answer! We're supposed to be thankful, not gluttons! I know it's the holiday where everyone overindulges but you don't have to overeat, you know. It should be about the people, anyway. Don't put food on your plate you don't want or can't eat. Someone (maybe you!) worked hard to cook it...leave it for leftovers. Just take what you think you can have, chew well, and enjoy. And think that you are working on getting healthier so you'll be around for many Thanksgivings to come. Enjoy the day.

And if you are someone who hasn't told those around them about the surgery, just say you have a stomach bug and are watching what you eat. If they send some home with you, portion it and freeze it. Most of it freezes wonderfully!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
