Hello from North Carolina

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I'm having Lap-Band in 24 days and I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. Everyone keeps telling me that I should've never picked this time of year because I will miss Thanksgiving and Christmas meals but the way I see it, all of those meals helped me gain over 150 pounds. I think I've had enough turkey, ham, and stuffing. lol. Anyway~ I picked a doctor here in North Carolina and he seems to know his stuff. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers on December 8th. :Dancing_sorry:

December Bandit I hope...

Hello to all those wonderful people from North Carolina!!

I am going to be banded on Dec 4th by Dr. Moran in Raleigh, NC. I am VERY excited as I was initially denied by insurance, went through an appeal, and I'm finally here!!

So to those of you who are on the other side and have lost weight, what do you think is the biggest reason for your success? Compliance to the eating plan? Exercise? Support group? Commitment to losing? It seems that there are a lot who have lost a lot of weight, over 10 pounds a month, and others who struggle. Any advice??

Good Luck to all the other NC bandsters! I think success is individual. For me any weight loss after a lifetime of failure is great. I was self pay so I have complied with the plan, I exercise at least 4 times a week, AND I go to support group, which is completely outside my comfort zone. My bandiversary is at the end of February and I have been asked to speak at the March meeting, so that keeps me very motivated. Most of the group is still bypass oriented, but as the surgeon does more and more lapbands our numbers are growing and may branch out into our own group next year.

Keep up the good work over the holidays!

Hey Newlife4bev. I see you are going to Dr. Moran as well. The doctor asked me to be banded on the 3rd of Dec. but I was thanking about Christmas and with my family. So I am waiting for January 8th. Have you gone to any of the support groups yet? I went last month. But didn't go this month. I hope maybe next month I will attend but not sure as of yet. Are you on the south or north side of Raleigh?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
