protein drinks

Recommended Posts

Hello. I am wanting to know what type of Protein Drinks you are drinking.

I have been getting the chocolate and the vanilla whey powder from Walmart. I mix it with skim milk and ice in the blender. The 2 scoops gives me 52 grams Protein. I am curious about the Unjury I hear about. Where do you get it?

I need some sggestions. Thanks

I JUST started my pre-op liquid diet today (rumble rumble), and I bought some unjury packets to try out (they can only be gotten online, but I ordered them on a Tuesday night and had them Thursday), and I have to say I LOVE the chicken soup! It's VERY good, I think. I also had the chocolate today, but sadly I accidentally added 1/2 cup of milk to it instead of 1 cup. It tasted good, but I wondered why it was so thick. About 20 grams of Protein a serving.

I bought all the flavors, but that's all I've had so far. I think I will make a strawberry here in a few minutes with milk and maybe blend with ice.

The only Protein I've used so far is Unjury as it was recommended by my dietician and they gave me lots of samples. I get my unjury at the pharmacy in the building my doctor's office is in, but they also have a website (www.unjury.com, I think). I love the chocolate mixed with skim milk and ice and the vanilla is good with skim milk, ice, and strawberry extract, or sometimes I'll add a strawberry banana South Beach Diet Tide Me over packet and it adds 6 gm of protein. The chicken unjury tastes like chicken broth and I like it too. I have the unflavored to add to regular Soups and drinks like crystal like. I highly recommend it, and I've heard that the price isn't bad compared to other options. Hope this helps.

I get a brand called "Max" from GNC. They have discount pricing during the first week of each month. The one I especially like is "Cookies and Cream". One scoop has 28 Protein and it is under 120 calories. I usually do one scoop with a little Water, 1/2 a banana and ice and blend it all together. You really don't need milk with this one. It really tastes like a icecream shake. They also have other flavors.

well i use a few different kinds of Protein... here are my suggestions.

#1) Muscle Milk Light... only 195 calories and 25 grams of protein!!! and i must say they taste amazing and have some pretty good flavors

#2) Syntha 6... really good flavors... a little high on the calorie side (close to 300) and not sure on the amount of Protein but the taste is great... kinda taste like ice cream

#3) GNC Wheybolic Extreme 60... this one is ok... it gets kinda frothy but the flavor is better than most... but the crazy thing is... it packs 60 grams of protein and only about 300 calories...

Now one thing I have heard but havent really looked into is that a normal person can only take in about 30 grams of protein every three hours. So of course taking the GNC protein would just be a waste of 30 grams of protein (if this is true) so what you can do is instead of putting in all 3 scoops... do one and a half scoops in half the suggested Water and then 3 hours later do the other scoop and a half... or do it at your snack times between Breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner...

just some suggestions...

Well I'm supposed to have 18g Protein Shakes, but when I found the Dr. Atkins shakes have 16 I ended up adding a new product I found - Special K2O Protein Water mix, which has 5g protein. YOu find them in the drink aisle and they're very convenient. They have 7 sleeves in a box and you just add them to water, I chose the pink lemonade one and take it to work for a snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Add a little fresh lemon and you're good to go.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
