My Band Surgery was 11/11/08

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone:

Just a quick update; I was banded on 11/11/08 of this week and everything went very well. Dr. Kim from Alta Bates performed the procedure and she had Dr. Uphday with her as well as proctors from Lap Band.

I have a 10cc new generation badn which Dr. Kim pre-filled with 3cc. There was some bleeding with my spleen during surgery, but I am well.

I ended up staying at the hospital an extra day, because the pain meds were making very sick to my stomache. I have issuee with RX pain meds.

Anyway, gas pain was hurtful, but was releived with walking and pain meds. I passed the swallow test at the hospital and I am now on liquids.< /p>

I am thankful I took two weeks off from work, because honestly, I would not have been able to go back to work right after the surgery.

I am doing well at home, walking, resting, drinking, and passing gas. I feel better at home than at the hospital. No place like home for recovery.

My follow appointment is on 11/26/08.:tongue2:

Hi,

I'm glad to hear you are doing well. I was banded on 11/10 and ended up staying an extra day too! I actually visited my office today but left because I felt a bit weak. I am trying to get through each day on the "clear liquid" diet which is difficult.

My follow up is Dec 2nd and I wish it were next week. I try not to focus on staying on a liquid diet for 3 weeks because it seems impossible.

Other than sore, I don't seem to notice the lapband at all.

Take care,

Kathy

Hi Teal:

I am doing well. I am drinking lots of fluids. Taking in plenty of sf popcycles to numb my roaring stomache growling. I am trying to focus on my Protein intake and fluids. So far so good.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
