Blue eyed P,

I totally understand what you're saying. I was banded on 10/14, had lost 16 lbs total, and recently noticed that i'm gaining again. my TOTAL loss is only 10 lbs right now. And that includes any pre-op loss. I've been eating whatever i want, or whatever works, per my dr. i know i've been bad some days, and eating too much, or the wrong things { too many calories } I,too, have been beating myself up over this. Then i start over the next day.

I went and got my first fill this week... as it turns out, i have an intestinal infection... why ? my stool isnt moving the way it should be, and i'm all blocked up. Again , Why ? Because i'm not eating the Fiber i used to - no raw veggies, salads, etc... and some of the bad foods are haunting me by sticking around. so i've started taking fiber choice chewable tablets , and watching my portions, and what i'm eating, and getting plenty of h2o, and i'm "losing" my blockage - AKA - some extra weight! lol So, instead of beating myself up, i'm LEARNING ... what to eat, what works, what doesnt, what i throw up from, Portion Control, etc...

We ARE all different. Unfortunately, there isnt just one blueprint for all of us ... I WISH !! lol ! Take care, and just do one day at a time. if thats too much, do one hour at a time ... it'll happen. I have faith that this will work for each of us, AS LONG A WE LET IT WORK ...

I gotta say, it really bugs me that people include their pre-op weight in their weight loss tickers. It's very misleading if you ask me. When I first came to this site I got really excited, because I saw people's tickers showing all sorts of weight loss. It wasn't until later that I realized people were including pre-op weight loss (and let's face it, the pre-op diet is essentially a crash diet).

Sure, it's weight that they've lost and they should include it, but a little note that says how much of that weight was pre-op would be nice.

What a person puts in their ticker is a personal choice. We are each on our own personal journey. We are not in a race. We are each simply here for support. Quite frankly, unless each person chooses to put that info, it really isn't my or any other person's business what that weight loss includes. Just my own opinion. I earned every single pound included on my ticker and don't plan to remove a single one of them.

Why should we not include it? My pre-op weight loss was from months of dieting and working out before I could even get approved for the surgery. And my diet just prior to surgery wasn't like many here.. I was on low carbs, no sugar and low caffeine for 2 weeks prior to surgery and on liquids for the last day only.

And why does it matter WHEN it was lost? What should matter to everyone is that we are all in the same struggle here. A pound is a pound, no matter when or how it was lost. We should be proud of every pound we lose.

To each his own, at any rate. My ticker is mostly for me, actually! My car's been stalled on the side of the road waiting for parts (aka restriction LOL) but I did suffer my fat little fanny off for 5.5 weeks to lose that 1st 32 pounds, and then suffered liquids only for 2 more weeks for another 9.4. I'm counting it. I started out WAY higher than a lot of people, and I own that, too.

I would not worry about others. the larger you are the quicker loss for the start of program. you should loose 1-2 pounds per week on average. this will give your body time to adjust. I think this is a must, as I don't want all the loose skin that comes with quick weight loss, and don't want any surgery other than a boob lift. working out will have more weight but its better than fat.

I was banded on october 1st and have lost 25ish pounds since surgery. Sometimes when I see peoples tickers that say they were banded after me and have lost like 60 or 80 pounds it makes me feel like a failure. I was just wondering if this is usually weight that they started losing before or if that's all post op. Thanks Everyone

Please, those are the lucky ones! I've only lost 12pds, you're doing great!

I was only banded a few days after you and I also lost 25lb. but I am happy with what I have lost since that means that the band is working and that I am on the right track.

I really feel sorry for people wo do not have a pre-op because it's more than just a diet for two weeks, it was an actual mental breakdown for shrinking your liver and learning how to eat healthy.

it's a catch 22 having a pre-op diet or not. i didn't have one, but my husband did (we were banded the same day). the good, was well the obvious....was able to eat up until surgery; also i did not have any regain at any point in this process. once DH went onto mushies / solids - he gained about half of what he lost on the pre-op liquid diet. to me that is more of a mental anguish than - losing way slow out of the gate.

I've been reading a lot of the posts and absorbing as much information as I can. From what I can see (and please let me know if I'm wrong) weight lost pre op and after surgery is staying off.

1-2 pounds per weeks sounds like so little but the fact it isn't coming back is a big one. Weight does flucuate(sp) during teh course of a day or week.

My weight history is (and from what I can see this is normal for everyone who has chosen LB) Loosing 10-20 even 30 lbs happens but then it comes back with it friends and relatives.

Has there been anyone who has experienced weight gain (what is lost coming back with a vengence) since they have been banded?

(of course I don't mean anyone who has gotten preganant since banding - new baby growing weight doesn't count)

I'm hoping to be banded in January. I've already gotten my insurance approval and see the surgeon on the 11/24.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
