Pre-op Progress

Recommended Posts

In the Pre-op Changes I talked about my struggles at once I got my surgery date and shared the same as others about eating the last meals. But since then I start changing. I actually got my surgery date setup back in September so I had done my feasting, as I would call it, back in late September and early October. By mid October I started cutting things out. I started having an Atkins shake in the morning for Breakfast. Then after two weeks I started a shake in the morning and a shake at lunch with like a banana or an Atkins bar between meals. Now today I officially start my pre-op diet so now I have to watch my dinners closer. From all the last meals that I had consumed I had put on another 8 lbs but since my pre diet to today starting my official diet I have dropped that weight and then some. It's great to know that I am heading in the right direction. I cannot wait to see how much more I can lose before my surgery.

Thank you Cali. My self control has been more about determination then self control. It's like people have talked about in order to be successful with surgery and with the weight loss it is a big part of changing our minds and our thought processes. Changing specifically how we think about food. Trust me in that I have very much been a binge eater and an emotional eater since I was a child. But now I have to realize that I eat for nourishment and not for any other reason. Sure I can enjoy the food but I can enjoy it in smaller amounts.

I have to admit today I had a weaker moment in that I was making bacon to have bacon turkey patties and I had a couple of more pieces then I should have. But I don't spend time beating myself up over that. If I was to do that daily over and over then I really have a problem. But the fact is I have been working at it and I am determined to be in the right condition to allow my surgeon to perform this surgery and I am determined to once again feel great about myself.

So for me it's know that in the end it is all up to me if I am going to make a success out of this or not. It is up to me and no other person. I have to take responsibility for my life and my well being. So that's my story. LOL

If my story can help you that's great Cali! We all need help from time to time and this is a great place to share with one another how we're doing. I have read about so many others on the forums here that have really inspired me to work hard at this.

Pete---I like your hat! Go Gators!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
