Foods I can no longer enjoy..

Recommended Posts

I have trouble with meats, bread, and tortillas. I can totally get why someone would turn vegetarian. When I fix my plate, I eat the meat first because I am "supposed to" and chew chew chew. It still gets stuck sometimes. By the time I get to the other food, it is usually cold.

Some friends of mine think i'm fibbing when I say I can't eat bread but can eat toast or I can't eat tortillas but can eat a tortilla chip.

Accountess--I have the same situation as you, but I haven't tried toast and with my past experiences with bread, I don't want to even go there. I miss bread and pizza, but who needs the carbs anyways??

I am the SAME as you. I think there are a few of us out there.

I can't eat ham and thin sliced meats (turkey, chicken) but CAN eat STEAK! and roasted turkey/chicken sliced a little thicker. I can also eat crunchy streaky bacon but not soft back bacon.

I can't eat soft bread, but I can eat a crunchy crust, well done toast and crackers.

For me the crunchier foods go down much easier.

Sometimes though I get stuck with EVERYTHING!.. and silly me I will carry on with solids at my next meal and still get stuck instead of going back to liquids.. I also have a bad habit of forgoing Breakfast (like many I get stuck on everything first thing in the morning) so have a soy milk coffee or soy milk ht chocolate. Not good I know. I get so hungry sometimes and just can't face anymore cottage cheese!! lol

But the weight I gained back (7 pounds) is now slowly coming off again.. thank the LORD!.. so hopefully be a few pounds lighter before I go to New Zealand next week for Christmas...!! (and will be thinner for my New Year holiday with my fiance in Hawaii!)... all this to look forward to!.

Happy Holidays

bread and dry chicken breasts are the only things that really give me any trouble. I can eat just about anything else if I take really small bites and chew really well. If I don't, then there's nothing I can eat.

I just started researching Lapband, but I gotta say, reading these posts have not been encouraging!

When you guys say you cant eat or cant handle something, do you mean if you try to eat it you end up throwing it up?

not for me, it just takes a LONG time to go down or can be painful (sticky sushi rice & dry chicken are my problem foods).

i haven't thrown up since banded.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
