Does anyone know the WHY of not using spices anymore? That doesn't make sense to me. I love ethnic food--because of the spices. Garlic can make just about anything taste good, not to mention cayenne pepper, oregano, and curry! I don't see why having the lapband would prevent the use of spices. Also, given that the stomach has such a thick lining (even at the upper end of the stomach where food sits after banding), it doesn't make sense to say that the spices would be irratating. I like to know "why"--not just because the doctor said so--what's the doctor's reasoning?

I have never heard that either. My surgeon sends out a Bariatric newsletter every month, and it has recipes in it. they use spices liberally. I wouldn't do this if I had to eat bland food. I would check around on that. It doesn't make sense. You're right. I would question it.

never heard that or been told.

i eat a lot of spicy food (mexican / tai / sushi / italian), and add spices to everything i make. we're limited with what we can eat as is - if it were bland, i would be miserable.

I'd check that info...or at least the source of the info. I've not heard of limiting spices before, and I enjoy spices. food without hot peppers, garlic, onions, ginger....very very dull.

I've not heard of that either. In fact, just to get more kick out of what little I am eating, I always have a few bulbs of roasted garlic in the fridge to spread on some fish or whatever. Homemade Emeril's Essence is a good quickie too.

I can't live without mine either. That is partly why I chose Lapband over RNY.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
