What's everyone eating on Thanksgiving?

Recommended Posts

This is my first banded Thanksgiving. This year, I'm cooking dinner for my sister, a close friend and my little nephew, which should be a lot of fun. I'll finally be on real food (4+ weeks post-op!) by Thanksgiving, so I'm planning to have a little bit of everything & am hoping that will work out with my band. My first fill is 2 weeks later.

What is everyone else doing about food this Thanksgiving? Other than gobble-gobbling, of course!

I'm gonna have some turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, maybe a biscuit. I'm gonna try to eat like a normal person who doesnt overstuff herself. Its gonna be really hard, cause you know as well as I that eating normally is not what we do. I just had my band on Oct 16th and I will be 5 weeks out on Thanksgiving and I havent had a fill yet, so I can eat anything and not get sick yet. I have lost 15 lbs since surgery and dont want to gain anything back. I'm really scared of the holidays. Good luck to usl

I will be 4 weeks post-op the week of Thanksgiving. I am having the whole family over and will be doing a lot cooking. I thought about having maybe a small teaspoon of everything just to get a taste. I am not worried about the Desserts as I am not a big sweet eater but I think I will do fine with the other foods.

I will be due for my first fill two weeks later on December 10th.

I am cooking a big meal for my husband, daughter and fiance, the baby and my Mother's best friend who still comes to Thanksgiving dinner even though Mom has been gone for 3 years.

I won't have all the pies I used to have, most of my family likes cakes not pies. But I will have an apple pie.

Turkey, Mom's famous stuffing, butternut squash, mashed potatoes, gravy (I got a new gravy separator to take out the fat). Baked yams, fresh peas and boiled onions, cranberry sauce, and whole cranberry sauce. Rolls and "light" butter. Oh fruit cup with serbert for the first course.

I will have my 3 oz. of turkey breast. And a spoonful of everything else. Just a spoonful. One small roll, no butter

And a tiny tiny piece of apple pie no ice cream on it.

I will be good. I finally have some good restriction so I know I can't eat a lot.

This also will be my first Thanksgiving since I got band I had mine done in August of this year. My husband, and our 4 kids are travling up North (West Virginia) for the Holidays. I am a little scared of this big Holiday, but I know not only I will get through it, but, all of us will make it.

My primary goal is not to overstuff myself. I plan on having a small piece of turkey, a few tablespoons of stuffing, a little bit of cranberry sauce, and whatever I may think I want. I have pretty much learned when I begin to get full and when to stop. So, if I end up putting to much on my plate, I will just save some for later. I have had the thought of not eating anything until time for Thanksgiving dinner that day, but I'm not to sure how that will work out.

Funny this was brought up. A couple weeks ago, fresh out of the mushies stage, I made a complete thanksgiving dinner. I found the stuffing difficult to go down, without tons of gravy. The potatoes just slide down. The meat, the way I cook turkey is nice and moist, so that went well too. The veggies, well I'm doing fine in that area too. Pies, well the crust got gummed up and hurt going down at first.

Since then I've had one, going on two fills, and am a little more nervous about it. But I'll have a small amount of stuffing, and potatoes. Maybe some veggies, not sure yet. For sure I'll get my 3 ounces of meat. I work real hard not to skimp on my Protein.

My Mom just asked me last night if I had any special requests. I said I would have the turkey with gravy to not make it so dry, a little stuffing, and some veggies. I will have recently had my first fill so I'm sure I won't be able to eat too much.

Banded on 10/24 and no restriction. First fill on Dec. 1st.

Turkey for sure

a 1/3 cup of mashed potatoes

1/3 cup of stuffing

veggie

one roll, not a butter fan, so all good there.

I'm sure later I'll have one piece of SF chocolate pudding pie.

Wow -- Luluc, looking at your stats gives me a lot of inspiration to get through this Thanksgiving without overdoing it! To think that you lost 77 lbs between last Thanksgiving and this one makes me wonder where I will be at this time next year. Very exciting stuff!

Well, I see my doctor two weeks post op the day before Thanksgiving, so I am hoping I can eat mushies by then. If there doctor approves me to move forward to the stage two diet, I will be able to eat mushies.

I will cook a small turkey and blend it. I will mash potatoes with gravie in a blender. At least I hope so.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
