ulser and the band

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if I have an ulser or not. Before I got my band I would have burning in my upper stomach. It would go away for months and come back. I haven't felt it since the band, the past few days I feel it again. My question is if I do have an ulser would it effect the band? I worry alot, but I hate to go to the Dr. The burning is higher then the band. Anyone have any input about this would be great. Thanks alot!

An ulcer can cause band erosion.

It is absolutely imperative that you contact your surgeons office and explain your symptoms to his nurse.

This is one thing that demands immediate attention... please call!

I had gastritis, which can lead to an ulcer

I had zero symptoms until I was unfilled then had symptoms. It was diganosed with an endoscopy. I had another surgery that is how it was detected. I was on nexium and prilosec for 2 motnhs and antibitotic for 3 weeks, I was checked on June 20th it was all clear so now I have a fill again. Call your Dr. explain it to him, he can do an endoscopy to see for sure what it is, or he may prescribe Nexium or Prevacid or some kind of acid blocker. He needs to be aware of this.

Ali, this is something most doctors test for prior to surgery. Did you tell your doc about the symptoms before you were banded? Maybe he did some examination while banding you that would tell you whether you had an ulcer or not. In any event, I agree, call your doctor as soon as possible and tell him about your symptoms. It's nothing to play around with!

I e-mailed my Dr. and he said

>>I think you can have gastritis, I recommend to take Zantac 150 mg. every 12

hours per 15 days and Malox chew 2 tablets every 6 hours, with this medication

you will feel better, please be in touch?>>

I am feeling alot better not, I;m gonna try what he says. Thanks to all that replied.

Ali, I m glad you called your Dr.

Prilosec over the counter worked better then all of those other acid meds, I took the others in conjunction with the prilosec, the others just coat and soothe , but the prilosec heals the esophagus and stops the acid from producing. Happy to hear you are feeling better :)

Hi Ali,

I would describe your symptoms as reflux, not ulcer or gastritis, but I guess there is some overlap in symptoms of all those things.

If the medication doesn't help, then you may just need a teensy unfill. Don't let it go on for too much longer.

Take care,

Yvonne
