Holiday Dinners???

Recommended Posts

So I have started my pre-op diet. That means that for Thanks Giving, the biggest holiday meal of the year in my opinion, that I have to eat a very modified dinner. We're going to my in-laws for Thanks Giving and yesterday my mother in-law asked my wife if there is anything special that she needs to have for me or if there is anything they should not serve.

My first reaction was don't make any special concessions for me. I don't want others to feel like they have to change the way they enjoy the dinners or the holiday festivities because I am changing the way that I do.

Then I started thinking what really can I have for the dinner. I am on the Liver Shrinking Diet so it's low fat and low carb. No more then 30 carbs a day and no more then 1200 calories a day. So what does that mean? It means I have to completely rethink food and what food I should be having.

Do you have any special plans on how you are going to handle the holiday dinners?

I was on liver shrinking diet last year for Christmas dinner. I straight up asked them if I could cheat that day and they said, sure, but be reasonable. I had one plate with all my favorites on it, but less of them. We have a lot of dishes so it was lots of food. I tried to eat it slow, but I did clean my plate. I think I even had a small desert. After that, I was back to my liver shrinking diet and it didn't seem to hurt anything.

Best of luck to you!

Well Pete I start my pre-op diet Tuesday and on a 1000 cal diet two slimfast and on frozen dinners. Thanksgiving I will be eating turkey and vegs I invited a house full of people to celabrate the day with me. On Christmas I will be on mushies and not going to cook this year guess family will have to find somewhere else to eat. LOL

I see my surgeon on Wednesday before Thanksgiving and will ask her then. My hope is that she will give the okay to postpone my pre-op by one day and allow me a modified Thanksgiving. I will not be cooking it (thankful for THAT!) so I won't have leftovers to be concerned with. I plan on small amounts of my favorites - of course there are many of those - but keeping to very small amounts will satisfy me, and I hope satisfy my surgeon. If she plays hardball - I'll have the turkey broth and cranberry Jello - and be thankful to have my surgery date the next week. It's all in what you set your mind to, and my priority is my surgery and following the rules for success. When Thanksgiving rolls around next year, I'll be close to goal, and my bet is I will eat very small amounts of my favorites!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
