I just PB'ed and it made me happy

Recommended Posts

BECAUSE it means the belt is finally showing significant restriction!! Also, in a weird way I was glad I had to throw away my dinner because I sure wasn't hungry anymore---AND it taught me the perils of eating too quickly and not chewing enough.

Now, I wonder if I should get a 3rd fill, scheduled for the 19th of this month? The only other time I felt any restriction at all was once eating a dry chicken breast and also scrambled eggs but only then infrequently.

So have I reached my sweet spot? Or should I get another small fill?

Thanks!

Jim

PB's are not necessarily an indication that you're at a sweet spot. PB's are pretty random, it's just a matter of not chewing something quite enough or eating a bite just a tad too big or losing concentration for a moment. You can PB with a loose band and restriction changes day to day, particularly for women. I wouldnt plan on not having your fill unless you're pbing daily from now until then.

Congrats!

Remember what you did (ate/speed/chewing/etc.) when you had that episode.

Learn from this.

I slime from time to time and it helps me modify things.

Jim, talk with your doctor and see if you should get another fill. If you are losing weight, you should be just fine with what you have. But talk to your doctor.

Keep us posted on your progress!

Are you hungry between meals(uncontrolable)? Are you still losing weight? I don't think just because you have a fill scheduled that means it's time for a fill. So I guess if I was comfortable were I was at, I would leave well enough alone until I started feeling hungry or my weight loss stalled. It is such a personal thing, everyone likes a different feeling of restriction. Some like to be tighter than others. I personally don't like being to tight, but that could also be the reason it has taken me longer to hit goal than alot of others. I would feel horrible exercising when I couldn't eat enough, and that would tend to make me not exercise. Which I thought exercise was important for my personal health goals. Like I said, it's a personal choice and you can see we all have different views. You will find your comfort level, it may take a few fills or unfills, but you'll find it. Good Luck

Laurigee, I feel exactly the same. I dont want to be really tight. I was a slow loser and due to my ability to eat, I have to call on a fair bit of willpower, but I felt exercise was important to me.

I lost 120% of my excess weight in the end. There's ALL sorts of ways to work this band.

Jachut: First of all you look fabulous! I know this has nothing to do with this thread but, as you mentioned you have to use a bit of willpower. I do also, I never reached the mythical "sweet spot". Do you think that some people are looking to never feel hungry again? Is that suppose to be the reality with the band? Does it seem like some are looking to rely on eating nothing to reach their goals instead of using exercise and good food choices? Is just being thin what some are looking for instead of health and a healthy relationship with food and exercise? I was going to start a thread about this and just wanted to ask another successful older(not in age in banding) if I may be way off base? Don't want to offend anyone!

Yes, I think some people are looking to never feel hungry again and some want the band to do it all. That's not *necessarily* wrong, its just not the way you or I might do it. I tend to believe that mental health is as important as physical and I dont consider trading dysfunctional OVER eating with dysfunctional UNDER eating a healthy step. Nor particularly do I think that if you lose weight by counting calories strictly and do so for the rest of your life can you truly say you've beaten your obesity - I think you've just traded one form of obsession for another.

But that's me and based on my outlook. I cannot in all conscience say it is wrong for someone else. Its an individual juourney for us all.

But I agree its fascinating discussion and I like to see debates like that on here. But be prepared, if you bring it up, it might get ugly. Particularly when successful longer time bandsters tune in, people go for the jugular. Its taken as lording it over others, pushing your success in people's faces and being a know it all by some people.

Its fun as long as you learn how not to get upset about it!

I've always said there's a fat mentality that many obese people suffer from - its the victim thing. This weight isnt my fault, the band doesnt work, my surgeon isnt supportive etc - and those people are the ones to turn rabid when you call them on it. Others struggle but ALWAYS make the best of any situation.

Also, you can get into huge fights about what is thin and what isnt, lol. I felt huge and obese enough to have WLS at 250lb, and others find that offensive because they consider themselves healthy and curvy and attractive having gotten down to that weight. Its all individual, like I said but I think the discussions are really interesting and very useful for people.

PB is Productive Burp. It's when you burp/belch after eating too fast or taking too big a bite and not chewing well, and the burp brings up a lot of saliva; sometimes including some of what you were eating.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
