Well it is done - Dr woodhead

Recommended Posts

Well it is done. two weeks ago today with Dr. Woodhead. I am surprised at how quick and easy it was - with no pain.

I am now eating mush -- but finding I can eat more than I thought - I am worried about that but I think it is because I don't have a fill yet.

I admit I stayed away from posting until after my surgery as I was scared of overwhealming myself.

So now what is next - what if it doesn't work??? that is what I am really afraid of.

Congrats on your banding !!! I'm glad to hear that things went smoothly and that you're feeling well !!!

Being 2 weeks post-op, for the most part you are healed. The swelling will have subsided and for most of us, without a fill it is going to feel like you don't have a band at all. Keep to the proper meal plan and keep taking small bites/sips. Don't let it fool you, my bet is if you were to take a big bite of something or not chew properly, your band will make sure you know it's there !!! Always remember that the first 4-6 weeks is about healing and your band seating itself properly, it's not all about weight loss at this point.

By looking at your stats you are already well on your way.....so stop thinking about failing !!!! Keep your thoughts positive and follow the bandster rules, we can ALL be successful if we work at it !!!

All the best !!!

Patricia

Congrats Kat!

I'm considering going to Woodhead myself. Just out of curiosity, what kind of pre-op diet did he put you on? after reading these boards, it seems like every doctor has different reccomendation.

Just saw Dr. Woodhead for my consult. Great guy!... More presonable that I had imagined! Pre-Op diet consists of a well nourished drink mix for 2 weeks. I asked...

:)

congrats!... but, what did he mean by 'well nourished drink mix'? did he specify a certain Protein shake?

i'm curious cause i hope to book my consult soon (still waiting to hear back from them after sending my questionnaire in).

I was banded by Dr W 3 weeks ago tomorrow and did not require a pre op diet.

It depends on your weight and whether or not your doctor determines the liver should be reduced making surgery easier. I found making my own shakes the best. If you have a good blender there are a lot of receipes. Also, there a drink called 'glucerna' that is a Protein Drink made for diabetics that too is great.

And Katru...what is next is up to you. Take your time and heal first getting yourself on some exercise routine. Don't rush your fills. I found that I got my restriction some two or three weeks after a fill. As I fail to chew properly I keep a loose fill of 5.5. I tried 5.75 and was vomiting so frequently I went back to 5.5. So be patient and get to live with your band. You probably have some restriction now but as you are eating mushies, it is sliding straight thru from the pouch to the stomach. When you start hard Protein and if you don't chew, I quarantee you will feel it. Hope to see you at the support meeting.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
