OT - Proactiv

Recommended Posts

I WORK FOR AN INSURANCE COMPANY AND I WORK OVER IN THE REFERRAL/PREAUTH SIDE. I ALSO HELP WITH THE MEDICATION APPROVALS, ETC. I HAVE SEEN PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD GREAT RESULTS WITH PROACTIV. PERSONALLY, I HAVE NOT USED IT THOUGH. I USE CETAPHIL SOAP AND CLEAN AND CLEAR ASTRINGENT. THE KEY TO THIS IS HAVING A ROUTINE. I HAVE NO ACNE. I USED TO HAVE IT BAD ESPECIALLY IF IT WAS THAT TIME OF THE MONTH, ETC. WITH THE PROACTIV, YOU SIGN UP FOR WHAT SEEMS LIKE A GREAT DEAL BUT THEN THEY KEEP SENDING YOU THE STUFF FOR LIKE A YEAR AND IT IS VERY VERY EXPENSIVE. PRESCRIPTION WISE YOU CAN GET RETIN-A FROM YOUR DOCTOR BUT IT REALLY DRIES UP YOUR SKIN SO YOU HAVE TO FIND A GOOD MOISTURIZER!!!!!

I think it works great - my husband loves it too! I know that it doesn't work for everyone, but we really have liked it!

I use it and have used it for about a year. For me: Yes, It does work but you MUST use it every day. If you stop using it you have to start all over again and deal with a breakout. It only works if you use it on a STRICT schedule. So no "skip a day" or "didn't have time". It is a must to get it in.

I have also used Miriad (available at ULTA) and that works as well but is $35 a bottle! At least with ProActiv you can get in their "club" for deals and specials.

i use it, i stopped for 2 days and it came back. i dont think its anything special. i think the benzoyl peroxide in the lotion is what does it and that comes in any type of acne wash. ive found that the applying the lotion is the most important step.

Very LIGHTLY glide it onto your skin and keep smoothing it down for a couple of minutes until it sinks in.

I'm open to suggestions of what other products people have had luck with too. I don't have severe acne, but at any given time I always have 2 or 3 pimples, particularly on my jawline and hairline, and it's really starting to annoy me. I think a lot of the problem may be that I don't keep to a schedule of washing my face and applying product, no matter what company it's from.

I have used it for a couple of years and love it. I only buy the deep cleaning cleanser and toner. I stopped buying it from Proactiv direct and buy if off of ebay. It is usually the same price or a little cheaper plus they don't keep charging your credit card and sending it to you. If you do go with them, they will space out your shipments for as long as you want.

I use the generic (walmart brand) of clearasil (sp?) the foaming cleanser. It is like $3 a tube and last about 3 weeks. I love it, I have had acne problems in the past, but not with this stuff. The only time I break out is when I am due for a depo shot. Before I started this stuff I would be totally broken out for a week before my shot and a week after, now I have one or maybe 2 small places for a day or so and that is it. I also never wear make-up and the only moisturizer I use is in my sunscreen. My mom is in her 50's and looks 30, so maybe it is genetic as she does the same routine as me. ~Mandy

Jenna, on the Miriad, which ones do you use? I went to their website and

and they sent me some samples. I used for one day (seriously!) and my supervisor

asked what I was using on my skin because it looked so nice. I wasn't

sure if you could buy anywhere but their website. Good Info on it being

at ULTA.

thanks!

Absolutly love proactiv! I had fought acne for 10 years. Started when I was 20 years old. Was on antibiotics for the entire 10 years! Tried every topical cream, lotion, gel, you name it, I did it. I stick to a program and really give it a chance before I opt out. In the end, my dermatologist had to inject my spots to get them to calm down. It was crazy! I was fat and had zits! I was depressed to say the least.

Tried Proactiv and now am normal sized and have clear skin. Happy girl.

You have to do it everyday and stick to it. For me, it works!

Also, I had tried Serious Skin Care line, Murad, and every over the counter thing I could find. All crap.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
