Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Please help me get a jumpstart!!

Recommended Posts

I was banded Aug 07 and lost 40 lbs. Was very happy with my band. I have had 5 fills and have good restriction now, but those original pounds are all I have lost. I have been eating all wrong and not exercizing..it is like why did I go through all this to abuse it and not do the one thing I need most and that is to lose this weight!

I am sooo ready to begin. My dr does not offer aftercare or support and I think that is so wrong. My question is this:

what can I do to begin this journey again and make it work?

What should I do to jumpstart my body to know it is going to be fed differently? Should I start with a Protein Shake and have my proper meals the rest of the day or should I try to do just shakes for a couple

of days?I am very excited to get someone to share this with me. I am 57, live in Houston and want this to become the journey I dreamed it would be. I am ready to put in the work!!

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Hi "C"

What's your name ? First I am also 57 and was banded on Sept 3rd of this year. I have lost 26lbs as of today and it's been difficult getting the fills. I just had my third and I still don't feel restriction. I am eating the right things but my portions are to much... I need to eat less at each meal. I'm not a Protein person so that did'n't satisfy me... I have been as of late having an egg scrambled with Salsa on top for Breakfast. Sometimes I add Weight Watchers cheese.. I often have sliced deli turkey wrapped around string cheess.. I like that for a quick fix.. it's quit filling. Lot's of Soup and yogurt with fruit also is a good quick fix.. Hope this helps don't get down on yourself. Just get back on track and TRY and walk at least 3 times a week. That was hard for me too but I'm in Calif so the weather is like 95 right now so no excuse right... Keep me posted and we'll share ideas

Sincerely,

MartiXLardy

I feel for you. I was banded 3/26/08. I've lost 55 lb, but I haven't been good with my eating lately. I found a group at work to exercise with twice a week at lunch, that's been helping a lot. I went for a fill 2 weeks ago, thinking that would help, but I'm too tight now so I"m throwing up. You already took the first step and posted on here that you need help. That's good. Make a plan for yourself, don;t just eat weight watchers food, join weight watchers too help get you on track. Talk to a close friend who will join in you on your Quest not just to lose weight, but to help get your lifestyle back on track. Best of luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
