Am I too tight??

Recommended Posts

So I can't figure out if I need to get an unfill. Here's how my day is...

When I first wake up, no solids at all, not even yogurt. OJ, milk, or Water only.

lunch, 5 hours later...mushies only. Soup, mashed potatoes, yogurt etc...

dinner, 5 hours later...anything, if I chew it well. meat, veggies, fruit, you name it!

I am losing about 2 lbs a week right now, the perfect amount. It's irritating that I can't eat solids until evening but I LOVE being restricted. But I don't want to be excessively tight either.

Oh also...no reflux whatsoever thank the Lord!! :)

Thanks guys!!

No reflux, no heartburn, no PB's, nothing gets stuck...enjoy!!!! As you lose weight, you may be able to get some more solids in at lunchtime, I find the band loosens a bit as the weight comes off. So, you are satisfied from lunch to dinner with the Soup, mashed potatoes, yogurt, etc? You aren't hungry? And the OJ in the morning isn't an acid problem? man oh man, and 2 pounds a week!!! wahoo!! Run with it, Hamu!!!!

In my humble opinion, I disagree. You should definately check with your band surgeon before making any decisions. I was told only solid Protein. If you're not getting any Protein @ Breakfast & can't get any down a few hours after waking up, and lunch is mushies; yogurt doesn't have much protein, it doesn't seem that you're getting enough protein.

I always eat Breakfast even if I'm in a real rush & have to resort to a Protein Drink (in a pinch, solids are much prefered). Also I asked my Dr. about having a South Beach Protein Bar for breakfast when I'm rushing and he said that's even better, because it's a solid & has 10g of protein.

Again, please consult your band surgeon.

Karen and I have the same Dr. and I was told by him that if you can not eat solid Protein all the time, you may be too tight. With this new fill I do not eat until around 11:00 am but it is all solid Protein. Since yoou can not get liquids in until the afternoon..are you drinking enough Water? By what you described it doesnt look like 60 grams of protein a day? Not trying to be negative but most you described in the part of the day are either mushy foods or liquid calories . Losing two lbs a week is great but with the low ammount of protein you are eating you are most likely losing lean muscle mass which in the end will make you flabby.( according the the 2 nutritionalists and my Dr. I have seen since being banded) This is another reason the 60 grams of protein are so important to not lose lean muscle mass and to help curb your appetite and cravings.

Here is an excerpt from the Inamed handbook that is valuable to your situation

With the Lap Band system in place, you should be able to eat only small ammount so the food you eat should be as healthy as possible. Do not fill your stomach pouch with :junk: food that lacks Vitamins and other important nutrients. Your meals should be high in protein and Vitamins and low in carbs. solid food is more important then

liquid food or soft food. The lap Band system will have little or no effect if you only eat liquid or soft food. It passes through the stomach outlet very quickly and does not make you feel full.

Here is another excerpt form the book

If the adjustment (fill) results in too tight of a stomach opening you could have a hard time eating most foods, sometimes this causes people to avoid solid foods. They may drink liquid meals or soft food meals and this may result in weight gain. A band that is too tight may cause reflux symptoms and can also cause frequent vomiting.

I hope this info helps you :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
