He was the other doctor i considered and i heard good things about him, but I chose Dr. Milton Owens. He was closer to me. I saw him at Rancho Specialty Hospital which is close to you. They have great support groups there too. There are a lot of us on this site who have had Dr. Owens and are happy. I guess you'd want to decide depending on insurance and price too. Anyway, that's my 2 cents! Good luck!

What fun this whole process is! I thought Owens was not participating with my insurance, he was my 1st choice, but I have since found out that he does, but was listed under a different address! This is great news for me, as he was my 1st choice and Dr. Oliak charges $4500 cash in addition to what my insurance pays and I was really having a hard time going with that. So great news is Owens was first choice and has reasonable requests and accepts my insurance completely! Yay, I did labwork yesterday, I am so excited and ready to have the tool I need to make better health choices and shed this weight!

I was banded by Dr. Owens on 10/20/08 and am completely happy with him and his staff. I went to Rancho Specialty Hospital and the staff there was great too, though the room was ice cold that day. Doesn't matter, I'm totally pleased with the whole process and Dr. Owens team. His costs are reasonable and he's very good at what he does. I didn't even feel my first fill (3 weeks after surgery).

Thank you Thank you Thank you! He was my 1st Choice, then I was going to switch, his staff is great and quick to respond. I am praying that I can get a December or Jan date at the very latest! I am so excited I can hardly think of anything else ... lol!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
