Anyone banded at Pacific Surgical, Olympia?

Recommended Posts

Would like to get idea from others regarding thoughts on Drs. Avila and Neal and what their follow up has been like. Problems w/getting appropriate fills? All good? I've heard a few things here and there. I go for my first fill later this month.

Thanks

HI, I was actually banded in Mexico by Dr. Ortiz (love him), Pacific Surgical told me I was not "fat' enough, although I was nearly 220 lbs. So I paid the 8k and had it done myself!

I love Pac Surgical, do not get me wrong, they were only following FDA regulations. They have done both of my first two fills and Erin their fill nurse is phenomenal! She was obese herself (lost over 100lbs) and now takes care of us. The cost is reasonable and I love having my fills done under fluoro, so I can see the restriction happening.

Good luck!

I was banded by Dr. Neal in 2006. They were the only office willing to fight for me for insurance (my bmi was 35). He did a great job on the surgery and is quite interested in his patients success. I just wish I lived closer so I could attend the support group.

I had a fill a year ago with a fill center and wish I hadn't. I'm back driving down to see Dr. Neal (was in yesterday) and am ready to get back on track. I had a little stretch in my pouch a couple weeks ago so he can in to watch the upper GI and make sure things were healing.

I think he's a good doc and I'm very happy with the office staff as well.

Britt

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
