Can you all tell me what the diet is that your doctor recommended before and after the banding? I'm going to my seminar soon and am reading that you all have done some kind of diets before and after and I was just wondering what it is! THANK YOU!

:D

I am just on the before...surgery is Dec 4.

My diet is pretty simple to remember.

1) 70g of Protein a day

2) no more than 30g Carbs per day

3) Fat in moderation

I had to do a medical fast--my surgeon sells Optifast, but I had Medifast meals on hand from a previous diet attempt. So I did that for two weeks pre-op. I lost 8 lbs and my doc said my liver was nice and small for surgery.

It seems all docs have different requirements and it may vary by patient. This was my experience.

Post-op was Clear liquids for 3 days then fulll liquids for another week. After that I was able to progress to regular foods.

I have the mean Doctor - LOL.

2 weeks pre-op is all liquid, high Protein. No more than 30 carbs per day and 600-800 calories per day. Which I am in the middle of right now. It isn't horrible. I'm not hungry. I just crave nutritional good for me food (no junk food cravings). Avoiding temptation is key -- at the office where I can't control the environment it is tough.

Post-surgery is all liquid for two weeks. Carb restriction is lifted, but target 90 grams of Protein per day and 800-1000 calories.

Weeks 3-4 post surgery is just mushies.

Weeks 5 & 6 - gradually bring back "normal" food.

My doc just put me on liquids for 3 days prior to surgery. After was liquids, softs, solids as I could tolerate - at my own pace.

My doc already knew I wasn't successful at dieting (thus why I was there getting the band) so I didn't have any special diets to do. Just reduce the amount of food I eat and learn to make better choices.

Well, it worked!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
