Are your losses regular?

Recommended Posts

I seem to have a weird weight loss cycle. I will maintain my weight (no losses) for about 2-3 weeks, then drop 5-7 lbs at once.

Yesterday was my weigh in and I was 225 for the 3rd week in a row. Today I woke up light headed and couldn't figure it out. I thought I wasn't getting enough Protein or something so I kept eating (not over eating just trying to figure out why)... still not going away.

Finally, I weighed myself to find that I was 220- 5 lbs lost! (Maybe more since it is 1:45 and I weighed w/ clothing on and had already eaten Breakfast and lunch.)

Anyway, this is the third time this has happened. I am always light headed/dizzy and then find that I dropped a lot of weight overnight.

Does this happen to anyone else? Should I be concerned?

My losses come in spurts as well. Since I am closer to the end of my journey, I don't get 5 pounds at a time anymore, but I do get 2-3 pounds. I was stuck for 2 weeks, and got on the scale today and was down 2 pounds... Go figure!

Oh, and the TOM DOES make a HUGE difference. As soon as that Water starts exiting, I see big number fluctuations in the scale. I have been lucky, and when TOM hits, I don't gain, but I don't lose. But as soon as it is over, I see a shift downward on the scale...

TOM made a huge difference for me as well. I have always lost in fits and starts throughout the banding journey. The only time time I lost regularly was the first several weeks. My weight loss graph shows plateau, dip, plateau, dip and repeats repeatedly throughout banding. The only difference now that I am pretty much at goal is that the changes are a lot slower and the losses smaller.

I always had a steady decline a week or sometimes more right after a new fill. Right now I have been holding steady for about of month . . . but I am half unfilled for being preggers and I went on a three week vacation in the middle east where I ate whatever I wanted. Even with all that, I don't seem to be gaining for which I am very grateful.

I'm so glad i'm not the only that loses this way. I never lose the 2 weeks before TOM. Then i'll drop 5-10 pounds over the next 2 weeks. I don't know why it happens this way, I can only assume i'm retaining Water that is off setting the actual weight loss.

I lose in spurts, too. I am strange though, because I lose the week before TOM, then lose nothing for the following 3 weeks. I have heard that metabolism increases before, which makes sense since that week before I am always HUNGRY!! I usually lose about 4 pounds per month.

Yes, my weight does this as well! My weight is up and down ... up and down the same 3 lbs and then BAM, I'll drop 3-4 lbs over night and keep it off permanently. I had to get an unfill yesterday because I hadn't been able to eat correctly for the last 2 weeks. My body was stuck and going into starvation mode. I was able to eat a chicken salad last night and then I weighed this morning and I lost a few lbs... I think because my body finally got nourishment.

I have always lost in a stairstep fashion - both with and without the band. I think it has to do with your body's setpoint - it decides, I am going to weigh 210 pounds, and I don't care what you feed me, I really mean it this time... oh all right FINE we'll go to 205 but I really mean it this time! Oh, you're not going to eat that croissant? Well, I don't care, I like 205...

Typically for me I'll lose nothing for two or more weeks, then drop a pound or more every day for 5-7 days. Then the cycle begins again.

My losses are very irregular, and have been since the beginning of the journey 9 months ago. And as I am post-menopause, the TOM is not an issue. I lost quickly for the first 3 months, and a lot of weight each week, then it slowed to a trickle for 3 months with a weight loss of maybe 1 pound one week, then nothing, then 2. Then I hit a plateau from he** that lasted 6 weeks. And now, I am back to losing, but s l o w l y...oh so slowly.

I think it is the body adjusting at certain points to the 'new weight', and then after a bit (whether it is one week or 6) it starts again. As long as it is going down, I am (mostly) content - although I would like to lose more and faster, but I tell myself I didn't gain it in one year, why should i lose it in one?

CoolCrystal - love the new pic.

Your all not alone, I will lose 5lbs, but what I do is gain and lose the same 5lbs for about a month and then, Boom! It's gone forever. I will go to 165 then go between that and 170 for a month or so then all of a sudden I'm down to 165. Then I will hit 160 a few days and again go between 160 and 165. It's been my pattern through the whole process. That's why I give myself a 5lb cushion without panicing. My goal is 158, but I figure I will have to get to 153 to maintain it. Good Luck Everybody.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
