I had surgery 3 weeks ago. Since i have started soft foods i am not having much restriction on how much food i can eat. Is this normal? I will have my first fill on Dec. 4th.

That's pretty normal. The amount of restriction that you get initially is a factor of the type (size) of band and how much fat you had around your stomach at the time of the surgery. As you lose weight, you'll get less and less restriction. Once your stomach has healed from the surgery, you'll be able to start getting band fills.

Hope that helps,

Bryan

That is normal till you get your first fill. That just means that the swelling on your stomach is going down. Some people feel the restriction right after surgery and dont need a fill within a few months depending on their doctors orders. Just make sure to stick with your diet and try to not eat a lot but also dont starve yourself as your body might start hoarding the calories and not burn them. Hope this helps

Hang tough and make sure you follow your eating plan. It is easy to get off track when you discover your appetite and little to no restriction after surgery.

Make sure you are getting in your Protein, very important for healing. Make sure you drink your Water between eating too, it really helps keep you full and hydrated!

After my stomach's swelling went down, I did not have any restriction until my first fill. I used a food journal to track my intake during this time so I would not gain weight during my time of unrestriction. After my first fill, I had some restriction and just ate moderately and was satisfied.

Yes I too I have the same problem. I was banded on Nov 4th and now I feel I can eat as I did before surgery. I have no restriction at all. It can be very discouraging. I get my first fill on Dec.5th. I hope this will help. My doctor said that he will only put in 1cc my first fill. Is this typical?

i think 1cc's is what i got on my first fill - but i also had saline put in during surgery....so my band was not altogether empty.

it's completely normal to not feel restriction after the swelling has gone down, the advice to journal your food & follow your dr's food plan is a good idea.

I did not feel any restriction until my 4th fill. When you feel restriction is as individual as you.

After about the 5th day post op my appetite returned completely.

I had my first fill last Monday November 10th. The dr. put in 3 ccs. It has been a week and I still don't notice any restriction. I stop myself before I overeat but I really wish I knew what true restriction feels like. I had to wait 6 weeks for my first fill and I don't go for another until Dec 22 -- another 6 weeks! This is going to be a very difficult holiday season.

I was banded on 13 Oct 08 and have pretty much the same problem as everyone else. I really don't have any restriction. Sometimes it feels like i do, but other times it does not. I go in for my first fill on 2 Dec. Since surgery, I have only lost an additional 11 or so pounds.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
