Congrats!

Everybody is different. Make sure you follow your docs guidelines and don't let yourself get dehydrated. That can happen pretty quickly if you are not sipping Water all day!

I found that warm broth right after surgery was very soothing to my stomach. I could have about 1/4 to a 1/2 cup serving at a time.

Good luck on your journey!

Banded on 10/29. I find it interesting how different bariatric surgeons are when it comes to pre and post operative diets. My surgeon, Dr. Morton in Nashville, is quite different that most in his thoughts on this. My two-week pre-op diet consisted of a Protein Shake for Breakfast and a Protein shake for lunch. For dinner, I had a low-carb high-protein frozen dinner. All to the date of my surgery. Post-op...I was on liquids the first two days and then started on "mushies" the third day. I am now on solid food less than two weeks out. I have not had any problems before or after surgery.

Just follow your doctor's guidelines. If you have the new lap band you may not have restriction post op, or not as much as people had in the past, so liquid will go through much more easily because the stomach isn't as traumatized and therefore not as swollen immediately post op. Do NOT advance to mushies or solids or full liquids faster than YOUR surgeon recommends, regardless of what others on here may do, per THEIR surgeons!

But as to how much clear liquid? I don't think you'll hurt things yet because you aren't restricted until you get fills and the band begins to be tightened. Safest bet is to ask your doc.

Hey batestami! If I gave YOU or SOMEONE ELSE the wrong impression on my post, I apologize. I was making an observation, thus the "I find it interesting" comment at the beginning of my reply. I do find it interesting the different methods that doctors employ to help each of us reach our weightloss goals. I in NO WAY was trying to tell YOU to go against YOUR doctor's orders. "I'm not a doctor and I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night either." I wish YOU the best of luck on this journey. By the way...I've already lost 20 lbs in my first 4 weeks of this process, which includes the 2-week pre-op diet. I go for my first fill next week. Good luck to YOU.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
