I am trying to find some unbiased reviews of lap band procedure. I live in Ontario Canada and find my GP completely non commital. I currently weight 350 pds, my BMI is over 60, I have developed Diabetes, sleep apne, high blood pressure and high chlorestoral. All he keeps saying is exercise and eat less. Easy for an asian man who is 6ft tall and problably weighs 150pds soaking wet.

He had his secretary quickly check to see if procedure was covered by OHIP (which as I have read here, is not) and left me to find my own way.

I am now in touch with Barix Clinic and hope to have procedure in the new year.

Back to my initial question --- Everywhere I look on the internet brings me to sites that are infommercials for the various clinics. Can anyone recommend an unbiased site.

I don't think you will find an unbiased site but if I were you I'd buy a few books and read up on it. I bought several from Amazon.com that were very informative, plus went to a couple different surgeon's seminars.

I will say if you are going outside your home area for surgery (regardless of where you go) make sure you're prepared to go back there for fills, emergencies, etc or have a lap band surgeon lined up Locally who will accept you. Many of us bandsters don't realize pre-surgery that having the actual band placed is only one step in a multi-layered process. The band is almost useless without good aftercare.

This site presents many opinions and anecdotal testimonials, but the "bad" stuff can scare you. Just remember many people only come here when they have issues or questions; when things are going smoothly they are out living their lives!

So read some books, nose around this site, go to a couple seminars. It's a lot to learn!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
