Exercise = weight loss stops

Recommended Posts

:laugh: I'm not really mad but my weight loss slowed so I started doing the eliptical at work for 25-30 mins, 2x a week for the last month and even went hiking at Natural Bridge over the weekend..I gained 2 lbs...ugg. I was losing rapidly and I've only had 1 fill since my surgery on July 25th...I think part of it is my fault, I have been eating regular foods and my portions have gotten slightly larger but not out of control...I just started back on some of the foods I ate during the mushie stage hoping to kick it back in gear...I was down 61 lbs but gained 2 back...hoping this is just a normal stage and I will start losing again...thoughts? Did this happen to you and what did you do? Think it's time for another fill?:thumbup:

Probably time for another fill. I have been exercising way over the top and not losing a darn thing. Well, I've been put in my place, my portions were way too big, I was due for a fill, and I've finally accepted I am just going to have to journal and count everything in my mouth, the lap-band is no different in that aspect of weight loss...at least for me. We just have to focus and work this thing! Good luck :laugh:

Hey Bengal Fan,

You may still be losing fat, but replacing it with muscle now that you're working out regularly. The same thing happened to me, when I got my foot out of a cast. I was able work out more regularly, and it seemed like my weight loss stalled. All I needed for inspiration was to look at the % body fat on my scale and I could see that I was gaining ground (and maybe a couple of pounds).

It's just temporary, because the muscle mass will help you burn more calories. Eat right, work out, do the right things and you'll keep losing!

My doctor recomends at least 4 days of exercise per week. Maybe if you add just 2 more days of exercise that would help. You have lost alot of weight so far without alot of exercise(I'm only going by your post). Maybe its time to kick your matabolism up. If you notice yourself eating alot more to stay satisfied, I would definately call your doctor to see about a fill. Good Luck.

My doctor says 30 minutes of "movement" seven days per week. Whether it is walking, swimming, jogging, he doesn't care as long as I move.

Muscle weighs more than fat, so you could see an increase in weight, but a reduction in inches for a while.

Suggestion: cut out all white carbs from your diet and it will kick start the losing again. I did it and I lost 3 pounds in 4 days!! It really works if you stick to it.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
