My instructions from the nutritionist say "anything that can be sipped through a straw" but it also says "thin liquids" Are Soups ok? It a low fat thin Tomato that I LOVE. I want a core group of foods for when I get out that I will find comforting and almost any trader joes Soup is in that category.

First of all, you shouldn't be drinking anything through a straw. I hope that's a guideline and not an instruction! Straws cause air bubbles, which cause burping, and burping is bad when you're post-op!

I'm only Day 7 post-op but I've had both egg drop soup (which is more like a liquid) and cream of broccoli soup (which is thicker). I added a little extra milk to the cream of broccoli and I blended it to break up all the chunks, so it would be thinner.

Every doctor is different though, so what my doctor says is good for me might not be good for you, and vice versa. I would say call your doctor and ask, that's what they're there for!

I was told chicken broth, Tomato Soup, wonton soup without the wontons, miso soup. Dont drink anything from straws I was told. You shouldnt be eating creamy soups because of the high calorie content. No clam chowder or bisque. See if Lipton makes instant soup that is creamy, but lowfat. I think they do. good luck

Yes, this sounds like it would be fine.

BTW, I would have starved to death if it hadn't been for broccoli cheese soup in those first 3 weeks....and I lost 12#.

the instructions also say to not use a straw. That is just the consistency they are looking for. I think I will hit trader joes and just get a ton. The Tomato is low fat and so good.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
