My port is about three inches directly above my belly button. How long ago was your surgery? I was terrified mine was flipped but I realize I actually have a hard lump over the port and under the incision and that lump felt like maybe the port was twisted, but the lump is decreasing in size so it's not that.

If you are sincerely concerned the only way to know for sure is to go see your doctor.

Mine is just below my sternum (up between my rib cage below the little peice of breast bone)

As for how to know if it is flipped, not sure other than a check-up with the doctor. I would think though that it could be bruised without being flipped, so maybe, hopefully, it is just bruised either still from surgury or from a little bump into it or something.

for some people, bruises take a very long time to fade. Right now, you probably are not getting a lot of Vit C, which helps with bruises. I wouldn't worry about the bruise for now. I think it is natural for you to feel your port, after all your body is still in "AHHHH WHAT DID SHE DO TO ME???? PANIC!!!!" mode. I think your brain is still in that phase as well. I know I was still a little weirded out my first month.

My port is between my belly button and rib cage on the right side. I can always feel it if I look for it.

DH has his on his sternum too

It is interesting how just about everyone's port is in a different location. Mine is located on my right side under my rib cage... I would say it is attached on top of my right oblique (abs muscle).

Flower -- it took my port area a couple to 3 months before it was un-noticable. I felt as if it was moving around and although this wasn't painful, it was very uncomfortable. This happened anytime I was in movement... In the car, riding the bike at the gym, doing ab workouts, etc. Now, I very rarely notice my port... unless one of my pups stands on it or if I do a strenous session of yoga (stretching/bending) that puts pressure on that area.

You might just need to give it a little time, but if it really bothers you... please talk to your surgeon.

Take Care,

I was banded on june 9th

Okay, so like me this is fairly new. Like others said, I think it's best to ride it out for a while. You are still healing. The port is attached to muscle and the muscles need to reknit the muscle fibers back together so it may be painful for a while yet.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
