Banded Oct 28 2008 feeling like a failure allready

Recommended Posts

I was banded on October 28 and feel as though I am a failure. I was very sore for the first 3 days and after that I felt wonderful. To wonderful, I have been eating like I don't have a band. I am not eating as much as I used to but I am eating way more than I am sapposed to and not feeling good about it. I have support from my family I just cant seem to get myself into a routine of things I am sapposed to eat in the portions I have to have. Could someone please help with ideas of ways to change for the good. I am going tomorrow to join the local gym cause I do enjoy exercise and I have to get back to doing it. I am scared I am going to screw this whole thing up.

I was banded on 10-10-08 and I find it extremely hard especially since I have to cook regular meals for my family. The best thing I have found is to go shopping for small tupperware containers and a small measuring glass that shows ounces measure out your daily meals and keep them close by so that when your hungry you can eat. I eat about every 2 hrs and drink lots of Water inbetween my meals. Protein Shakes are a good source to help get all the Protein in for the day.

Does your doctor have any type of support group he could refer you to? Most towns or hospitals have one and I'm sure talking to people who know what it's like would help. I was banded on 10-30 and haven't had a fill but everyone says that will help a lot. Don't get down on yourself and try to remember how you felt about your life before the band. Let that be the motivation you need to keep you going. Remember that you already made a very pro-avtive decision about your health. Good luck to you and I'm here if you want to talk.

I haven't been banded yet but wanted to tell you that you're not a failure. Like the previous poster said, you are just beginning and you've taken a huge step by having the procedure done. You'll get there, just take one day at a time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
